Many of the Running2London squad members will move into the Running2Rio squad after the London 2012 Olympic Games and challenge for places in the 2016 Australian Olympic Team. Joining them in their endeavours are several developing and emerging athletes who currently make up the Running2Rio squad.
Bart McPherson is a leading U/20 middle distance athlete who, in early 2009, moved to Sydney from the South Coast of NSW to take up studies at Sydney University. Since joining the squad Bart has developed into a promising athlete of the future.
Brad Milosevic, like Bart, is a young middle distance athlete. His long term and key aim is to compete in the 2010 Zatopek 10000m event as a first year senior athlete. Brad, a 3rd year member of the squad, has been on a steady improvement curve over the past couple of years, and will begin to compete for medals at NSW state championships in the near future.
Lauren McKillop, still an U/20 athlete, has enjoyed a fruitful 2 years with the squad and has recently accepted a US collegiate scholarship at Butler University, Indianapolis. Lauren has been a key member of Butler’s 2009 cross-country team. Lauren plans to return to Australia after her graduation and look to Rio as a senior distance athlete.
Liam Ridings like his training partners Bart and Brad, Liam is on a sound improvement curve and is enjoying his relative new training environment and squad. Liam will focus on track 5000m as he moves to his first year as a senior athlete.
Courtney Carter, after relocating to Sydney from Perth, has continued his improvement as a middle distance athlete. Growing up in Perth without as high a level of competition the eastern states are accustomed, Courtney has steadily progressed into a national level athlete through his determination and ability. Courtney will be focussing on the 2010 winter season, culminating in the Australian Cross Country in Queensland.
Lucy Starrat joined the Running2Rio squad in early 2009. At 21 years of age Lucy is looking forward to her first year as an open age female distance athlete. Lucy has put together a sound 2009 training period and will compete in the 2010 domestic season starting with the NSW 5000m championships in February.
Sam Burke is a member of the squad who has recently relocated back to Sydney from Perth where he was living and studying. Sam is looking to train hard and make his mark on the middle-distance in Sydney on the way to becomin a nationally competitive athlete.
