Running2London athletes Jeff Hunt (RBH), James Nipperess (SUAC) and Emma Rilen (SUAC) will today be racing for their clubs at the annual NSW road relay championships in Wollongong. James and Jeff will be continuing on with their winter season, whilst Emma makes a welcome return to racing.
In what is normally a fiercely contested event between the leading clubs, James and Jeff will be hoping to anchor their respective teams to victory. Both ran on the anchor legs at the cross country relays, where Jeff held a 30-second lead at the start of the 4th leg and was never caught, running away to victory. James managed to run only slightly slower than his seasoned training partner in the arduos conditions to win the silver medal.
Emma will be returning racing for Sydney Uni, and has hopes of being able to run one of the quickest times of the day. It is a welcome return for the R2L athlete who has missed a few races recently due to untimely illnesses, but seems to be ready and raring to go.
Meanwhile, Bridey Delaney will continue on her European campaign with a 1500m race at the KBC Night of Athletics Meet in Belgium tonight (10 July). She will be up against a good field again where to be competitive will require a good performance. With hopes of a Games qualifier in the forefront of her mind, perhaps tonight it may come to fruition.
